Venice is an ancient city of islands and canals with arguably unmatched Old World charm. From Renaissance art and Gothic architecture to mouthwatering restaurants and wine, there's so much to love about this gorgeously rugged hub in Northeastern Italy. Romance and recreation come together like a symphony in Venice. Of course, there's world-class theatre, opera, and classical music. It was the birthplace of the famous composer Vivaldi after all. This is where you can relish gondola rides through the Grand Canal – just don't expect every gondolier to burst out into a song! Other attractions include St. Mark's Basilica, the Piazza San Marco, and the Gallerie Dell'Accademia. It's impossible to get bored of the marble palaces and bronze statues in the heart of Venice. If you have the time, it's absolutely worth getting a hotel at least a night before and after your Mediterranean cruise.
